With the first ever release of this long lost rumored recording from 1971, Blue Note leaves us asking ourselves this question. What else of this high of quality does Blue Note have in their vaults? Recorded right here in Detroit in 1971, "Live At Club Mozambique" features Green on top of his game. On the funkier tracks green gives his younger rhythm section comprised of Idris Muhammad and Ronnie Foster a work out all the while veteran Houston Person adds the perfect ingredient to this combo. Recorded five months after his "Alive" record, this newly released recording hits much harder. The ballads are more soulful and the funk is much heavier. Just check out the first track, a hard hitting, ultra funky version of the Fabulous Counts track "Jan Jan". After listening to this and the Lonnie Smith live disc from Club Mozambique, I can only imagine the level of jazz intensity going on here in Detroit. Hopefully there will be more releases of "lost" recording like this and of this high of quality from Blue Note.
